Inside the REACTOR
It’s the largest nuclear power plant decommissioning project in France. The site at Marcoule in the Gard alone represents some €450 million, mainly for the decommissioning of the UP1 plants and Phenix reactor, stopped in 2009. On this job, GROUPE ECIA staff are providing assistance to partner firm Engie to develop a forward plan in the frame of a massive maintenance agreement to keep to the reactor dismantling and clean-up schedule. “Engie’s men are our eyes and our hands here. We rely on their technical knowledge to move forwards”, explains Romain de Simone, engineering & maintenance officer. Expected to last between 6 and 8 years, one of the specific aims of this project is to make sure that the used nuclear fuel disposal line is always available.
